I don't know exacly whats going on but I don't think it has anything todo with the minecraft version.

I did a fresh compile with nothing extra and it wont connect ;(

I think xoft wil know whats going on

Fixed the issue was with my interfaces file. something was wrong with the static ip info so i changed back to dhcp

Can you elaborate on the fix please? I'm a linux noob so I'll need a bit more info; I'd like to trace this problem down so that we work even with static ip.
How do you toggle between a static and dhcp ip?
Also, can you try if rev 1596 works in your original setting?
