Sponges will not work on my server. not sure what todo. i shut down both server and mc and still did not fix the issue.

what should i do next.

They're currently not implemented in the server, so its not your problem. You'll have to wait until https://github.com/mc-server/MCServer/pull/1678 is merged, at which point they will work.
