Yeah, I found this on the minecraft forums and think it's pretty awesome

I think I might learn lua (pretty similar to java, right?) just so I can make plugins for this.

I have to agree, this project is great.
It's a very fast and efficient minecraft server that support lua plugins.
I don't know too much about the difference between lua and java. I don't really like java so I try to stay away from it.
If you mean Lua and Java are similar because they are both 'programming' languages, than yes, they are very similar XD
However, syntax wise it's completely different. And Lua doesn't really support classes, whereas Java is COMPLETELY classes
