I think you can fix it by changing the server id in settings.ini

The default server ID is MCServer I think, which is 8 bytesTongue I'm not completely sure about this though
I think the same message appears when you join an old server with the 1.0.0 client and r179 is an old serverBig Grin

I'm working on a fixed solution for this where you can use authentication in MCServer, so far I can get it to work manually but I need to find the automated solution.
This is fixed in the latest SVN revision (107)
