DMCA takedown - bukkit - Seadragon91 - 09-05-2014 Hello! Well looks like that bukkit has now a very big problem http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/ shows Quote:451 Unavailable for Legal Reasons And that is very bad for spigot, too. What are you thinking about that? regards, Seadragon91 RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - LO1ZB - 09-05-2014 I didn't used bukkit for a while, so it's not a big deal for me. http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1s81jha RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - xoft - 09-05-2014 Wait, what? Do I understand correctly that this is actually one of the Bukkit coders who noticed that the entire thing is GPLed, so he wants either to have Mojang release the source code to their server, or Bukkit to cease to exist? WHAAAAA? RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - VaiN - 09-06-2014 I've been reading up on this a lot. There's a lot of gray area involved that only lawyers/judge can really draw a definitive line on. Try not to get bogged down by the discussions as it's mostly just bias banter. To me there are at least a few things that are certain: 1. Mojang isn't going to open source their server software 2. The whole situation is bad for the Minecraft community 3. There's going to be a solution weather it's CraftBukkit revived or not One positive way to spin it though, it might bring more people to get involved in alternative projects like this one. I wouldn't have been looking for one myself if it weren't for all that, and that's how I stumbled my way in here. RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - LogicParrot - 09-12-2014 I've read a lot and I still can't come up with a story that makes sense. I still don't get how exactly it all happened. VaiN, here's a proposal: If you like the project, why not tell the Bukkit community about it via their forums? Many people would love to know there's a c++ alternative now that Bukkit is gone. I was unable to register a new account, something is wrong with registration. RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - Seadragon91 - 09-12-2014 Hey Well there are still much things to do in mc server. There is a open source solution written in java in development named Glowstone. https://github.com/GlowstoneMC/Glowstone RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - worktycho - 09-13-2014 We did seem to have get more traffic. Visitors to the repo more than tripled to 340 on the 6th and although it has declined since then. RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - xoft - 09-19-2014 Any update here? I don't follow Bukkit stuff so much, but perhaps someone does. How did the events turn out? Was the DMCA challenged? Or is Bukkit really dead? Was the DMCA challenged? Or is Bukkit really dead? I haven't got any new information about the dmca. But a lot developers from the bukkit team are gone or moved to a other project, named Sponge. There are also other developers included, from spout, ftb, spigot team and lots of others, too. It's to early to say, how it's going on with bukkit. regards, Seadragon91 RE: DMCA takedown - bukkit - tryy3 - 09-20-2014 As far as I know, like Seadragon said, a lot of devs from bukkit have left, but as far as I know Mojang still wants to keep Mojang up, and Dinnerbone and a few other devs will still keep it up to date, doe now with Microsoft owning Mojang its a bit too early to say. On that subject, the project Cauldron have stopped developing because of the DMCA, so as far as I know, the DMCA is still up but I don't think anyone really know whats going on, doubt even Mojang knows atm considering the ownership change. |
