if you plant a sapling a tree from the old generator will grow :O

Yes. The new trees are only in the generator at this moment. But they are ready for being used for saplings as well.

and are you now finished with the new generator or are you doing some improvements?

There's still small foliage to do - grass, flowers, mushrooms. I'll only replicate what the original generator had, so it's gonna be fast.

I'd say the new generator is in a good shape now, I would consider merging it into the trunk. It does what the old generator did, plus a few extra things, and even seems a tiny bit faster (dunno how Wink

Not yet. Sorry. But it'd be much easier to add, and even to make it 256 blocks high instead of Notchian 128 blocks Smile
