RE: What we're doing - NiLSPACE - 05-20-2015

We have 600 stars on GithubBig Grin
EDIT:
Probably because of http://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/comments/36dtcz/mcserver_a_foss_minecraft_server_with_lua_plugins/

RE: What we're doing - worktycho - 05-20-2015

Well Visitor count of the repo jumped 18x yesterday. With about 1,700 additional unique visitors.

RE: What we're doing - bearbin - 05-20-2015

Yep. A front page post on Hacker News tends to do that.

RE: What we're doing - tonibm19 - 05-20-2015

Everyone is asking for non-lua plugins

RE: What we're doing - bearbin - 05-20-2015

Yep. But that's just because they've only ever used Java before. If they actually tried lua they wouldn't find it nearly so bad.

RE: What we're doing - tonibm19 - 05-20-2015

But c++ would give unlimited possibilities, thats something not possible with a lua api.
Why dont just try to impliment a just in time compiler for c++? Is it posible?
It would take more people to MCServer

RE: What we're doing - worktycho - 05-20-2015

It exists, and is called cling. But its bigger than MCServer, in executable size.

And doesn't work on windows yet.

RE: What we're doing - DiamondToaster - 05-20-2015

Here's something:

https://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/JIT

It uses a lib from the upcoming GCC 5.x to embed a C++ JIT compiler into a program. Looks like this might be handy if C++ JIT plugins are for some reason needed.

RE: What we're doing - LogicParrot - 05-20-2015

I don't see any point in switching to non-Lua other than wanting to bloat stuff on purpose.

RE: What we're doing - xoft - 05-20-2015

Over and over again, oh please, can we stop with the non-lua stupidity?

There's nothing C++ could do more that Lua can't. It is all matter of interface - what we export to API and what we don't. And frankly, the Lua API is so far ahead that any other language will be severely lacking in features. That's what killed the Squirrel language support.

There are gonna be Lua-haters, same as there are Java-haters, and nothing there will change that. And of course we will get mostly the negative ones, because the positive ones will be happy that we do support Lua and won't bother.
