After looking for some java alternative server i arrived here..

compiled the source and not sure how much issues there are?

Only thing i noticed so far is the tnt is useless...

is there any other large issues? do doors work? do carts roll on tracks?

any other significant issues like that?

i dont know why minecraft is in java to begin with...

As for the Java question, it's rather simple - to be multi-platform.

As for MCServer issues - there are many, many, many. We currently lack almost all physics (incl. minecart tracks; liquids are behaving weird), mobs AI is pretty useless, redstone is half-working... I'd say the server is currently closer to Classic than to Current versions of Minecraft, feature-wise. There are some plusses, but not enough

A lot of them In short:
Carts don't roll on tracks;
No dungeons, no abandoned mineshafts, no nether;
No brewing, no enchanting;
No proper redstone (just partly; worst of all - buttons and levers don't work);
Bad mobs AI.
