ZeroBrane Studio claims to be able to debug Lua scripts on Linux. I have only worked with it on Windows, but I'm fairly confident it should work on Linux, too. There's a guide on setting up ZBS, and although it hasn't been tested on Linux, it should give you pointers in the right direction: http://mc-server.xoft.cz/LuaAPI/SettingUpZeroBrane.html
Please let me know if you do manage to set it up successfully, and if there's anything I should add to the guide.
