Not sure about fixing the crashes, I doubt it. Those errors were only minor, the worst they could've done is having the same weather for an almost infinite amount of time.
But crashes may be caused by the invalid pointer operation, so if we find one, it will definitely prevent some crashes later on.
As far as I know, gcc places all the debugging info into the executable it produces (hence it is so large). Still, might be a better idea to actually compile on the same machine as you're running the server on. That is, if it is possible.
