Client for testing

Hello,

I had a quick look but couldn't find anything; I'm looking for what client you guys use to test the server whilst developing?

I've not played minecraft before so I'm hoping I don't have to pay for a client in order to test any changes I make. While I'm at it... the server is intended only for multiplayer clients yes?

We use the default vanilla from The minecraft website. You could get a cracked somewhere but we don't encourage it.
