Am I the only one here who actually doesn't need the extra copies? I've broken a git repo just once, and even then it could still be fixed after a few hacks. I just keep one folder for the master branch and anoher folder for the feature branch I'm currently working on (because switching branches is cheap in git, but expensive in make / msvc) and I haven't had a hiccup for as long as I remember.

I love more working under linux. Running cmake command in different directories. This allows me to have for every branch a own folder and makes compiling changes much quicker.
