New minecraft version. (1.15)
Apparently MC 1.8 is also going to be to performance update. They added a new feature that gives 5-10% more fps and they now have chunk rendering on a different thread which makes it allot faster:

Which is weird because I've tried the latest snapshot yesterday and unlike the previous versions it was really choppy on my machine.

And the newest snapshots don't work with the mc-server...

I do have the latter one, 14w28b, and I get 15 fps, whereas in 1.7.10 I get 60 fps.

They did the performance updates in 14w29a/b. How many frames do you get with that one?

I have only 32-bit OS, so 2GiB is the max RAM I can give to Java.

I don't have 14w29a/b in my launcher. I guess I should restart it Smile

Yes, 14w29b has "fixed" the perf problems, smooth again Smile

Did you also try the new button in the Video Settings? It should increase the frame rate 5 - 10%, but it crashes on my laptop.

It doesn't crash for me, but doesn't work properly either - when I dig a block, the image of the block stays, although the block is gone. Then I can walk through the block's image and see underground.
