I'm wondering about the project's position on supporting cracked clients, no authentication, and means to by-pass the IP owner's means to collect a few bucks.

Now that MS owns Mojang and Minecraft, I suspect that they will start a clean-up of all the illegal and illicit stuff. I should think that we might want to close this hole.

Well.. vanilla also supports cracked-clients, so I don't think it will be a problem.

There was an issue on GitHub from earlier this year about that.

Hmm. I don't think this applies anymore. Does the client still support a non-auth mode? Also, I think the popularity of cracked clients has only just started. More people are playing (mainly in Eastern Europe) with cracked clients and haven't given Notch or MS their $.

I think we should consider this. Seriously.

http://www.screwattack.com/news/notch-mi...-pirate-it
and a german site http://derstandard.at/1297819447527/Kopi...-Diebstahl

Quote:Quite surprisingly, the statements by Persson, however, did not come, he is himself a member of the Pirate Party. About lack of success, the developer needs currently and certainly not complaining, Minecraft has - although still in the beta phase - already almost 5 million registered players, of which about 30 percent have paid for it.
So the cracked client is from Notch, what MS is doing i don't know.
