implementing 1.8 features

Hi I'm new here and I want to contribute with my C++ knowledge. However, I kinda don't know what the plans are right now. I have noticed 1.8 features are not implemented, when I was trying to see what the server couldn't do, so I was wondering if I could just create a new branch and start working on those or if there are things with higher priority that need to be implemented first.

The only issues of higher priority that others would be those labelled 'important' in the issue tracker, and those presently consist solely of crash bugs. However, there's no requirement to work on them, or any, first (but its suggested to look at the 'easy' issues first to familiarise yourself with the code structure). Just fork and do whichever takes your fancy.
