It's a sign that they release a version before its entirety stable so they have to give fast Bugfixes which come fast and contain bugs too..... Bad practice

Summary from the pre-release page:

Many many packet id changes, maybe all changed...
6 new packets listed
New protocol version is 335 and string length of Locale in Client Settings changed from 7 to 16

Looks like if all packet ids and the protocol version are corrected, the new clients should be able to connect again
