You've finished 1.7, now cut?

Why cut? 1.7 protocol is working well. I think multiversion support is a great feature, you should not drop this.

1.7 is very far from finished, and lots of people are still using 1.6.x, because the MCP project hasn't been updated to 1.7 yet, and so the mods cannot be updated either.

Okay, good point. WHEN 1.7 becomes properly mainstream, then perhaps cut?

I'll cut when 1.8 becomes mainstream. Again, why fix something that's not broken?

And it seems that there are no protocol changes, good.

And they still didn't fix the issue that bugs me the most - multiple songs playing at once, most often in the menu. I get as many as 4 different songs playing over one another
