Just set DefaultViewDistance to 100 in settings.ini
(I guess)
It said, the maximum is 15.

View distance 1 test!
I'll try with 1.2.5 too.
EDIT: it worked well until I tried to spawn a horse

, now im trying view distance 32 (using optifine Extreme view distance)
32 chunks view distance in MCServer:

Made a PR.
Hmm, the 1.8 snapshots already got version numbers higher than 1.2.5. And here I was hoping that we could use a single number to represent any MC version. We'll have to improvise.
Weren't we planning on removing 1.2 - 1.6 support when 1.8 was released?
On lesser computers that's a number to be thankful for

Oh dear, we will have to find another block to use instead of the currently used sponge block, for marking Gallery areas that should not be overwritten.

Alright, so who can find a new suitable block? It should be a block that has no interaction with the world, doesn't generate naturally (and preferably not even accessible to survival players)
What if we used sponge with a meta value of 2?
Is that the wet sponge? That could work.
