How do i actually go about running the linux version?

Well my issue arrived from stupidly downloading the tar on my local computer and exracting it via winrar thus missing like 90% of the files needed and only getting the mcserver file. Once i got the file using wget and extracted from cli everything worked as expected.

I would be happy to help cleanup the wiki if you need someone to do it. I have pretty much nothing but time and since i already admin on other sites im fairly used to setting up a wiki here is a little snippet from one of the sites rules section on our wiki
